Jaipur. In Rajasthan, all six MLAs of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Monday joined hands with the ruling party Congress. He submitted the letter of merger in Congress to Assembly Speaker CP Joshi on Monday night. Joshi confirmed this and said that BSP MLAs have handed over letters to me.
MLAs Rajendra Singh, Jogendra Singh Awana, Wajib Ali, Lakhan Singh Meena, Sandeep Yadav and Deepchand said that they are merging their Legislature Party with the Congress. A Congress leader said- ‘All the six BSP MLAs were in constant touch with Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and on Monday he joined the Congress.
Significantly, the Congress has 100 MLAs in the 200-member Rajasthan Legislative Assembly. The Congress also has the support of a Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) MLA. Apart from this, 12 independents in 13 have also supported. Two seats are still vacant.
The Gehlot government has an absolute majority
considering that the Congress got a total of 99 seats in the 2018 Rajasthan assembly elections. Whereas BJP had to be satisfied with 73 seats. Although the Congress emerged as the single largest party in this election, it lost one seat by an absolute majority. The Congress formed its government with the help of BSP and Independent MLAs. After all the 6 BSP MLAs joined the Congress, the Gehlot government has now become an absolute majority government on its own.
The bodies and panchayat elections are to be held soon in the state,
after some time the bodies and panchayat elections are to be held in the state. All the BSP MLAs joining the Congress before these elections are considered a big blow for the BSP. This time to get victory in the Congress body and panchayat elections, there is a lot of emphasis on membership campaign.
BSP MLA accused Mayawati
Significantly, in the beginning of last month, Rajasthan’s BSP MLA had accused party supremo Mayawati of taking money and giving ticket. MLA Rajendra Gupta had alleged that in our party Bahujan Samaj Party, tickets are given after taking money. If someone gives more money then the ticket of the first one is taxed. If a third person gives more money then the ticket of both is cut.
